In research, they approved the International Observatory on Hospital Pedagogy, to be led by the lecturer Verónica Violant. This observatory, as the vice-rector for Doctor for Doctoral Studies and Research Promotion Xavier Roigé noted, aims to give advice and collaborate in permanent actions regarding research, innovation, training and thinking on hospital pedagogy among the universities, health and education centers.

The vice-rector Roigé commented on the new additional aid for FPI interns at the University of Barcelona. After the Governing Council approval, FPI PhD students will have the doctoral studies enrolment costs covered. A total of 36 students can benefit from this grant

In academics, the most highlighted issue was the approval of the guidelines for the academic and teaching organization at the University of Barcelona for the 2019/2020 academic year.

Name change for two faculties

The Governing Council approved the name change for the faculties of Library and Information Sciences and Philology. Regarding the former, the new name will be Faculty of Information and Audiovisual Media. According to the dean, Miquel Térmens, this change has three reasons: the need to make more visible the studies on Audiovisual Communication, the need to show the new academic, professional and research environment in library and information sciences, and the interest in highlighting synergies between the dynamics of information procedures and audiovisual media. Regarding the Faculty of Philology, which will be named Faculty of Philology and Communication, the new name summarizes the series of disciplines that are taught at the faculty, as well as the skills associated with them and the professional profiles the students are trained for.

Creation of Sustainable Development Commission

The vice-rector for Equal Opportunities and Social Action, Maite Vilalta, proposed to the Governing Council the creation of the Sustainable Development Commission, which, apart from carrying out environment-related functions, would gather those related to social responsibility. The functions of this new commission will be, among others, to create a map of current actions that are related to the implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDG), the approval of the social responsibility report of the UB, and the proposal of an action plan to develop the SDGs at the UB and monitor its fulfilling.
