The world of crystals shines again in the 8th Contest of Crystallization at the School
About 1,900 students from around Catalonia have taken part in the eighth edition of the Crystallization at the School contest, a competition for teachers and students of second year of secondary school (EDO) and upper secondary school to promote the applications of the scientific method and critical thinking among young students using crystallization experiments.

This contest is an initiative organized by the UB -in particular, by the Faculty of Earth Sciences and the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i)-, the Autonomous University of Barcelona and Ramon Virgili University, in collaboration with Museu Agbar de les Aigües, the Institute of Professional Development of the UB (IDP-ICE), and the Education Service Gironès, University of Lleida and the Specialized Group on Crystallography and Crystal Growth (GE3C).
This contest is divided into three stages, which cover the teacher training and the work of the students in the centers, the presentation of the crystallographic work in a scientific conference-format session.
During the last session, which took place on May 24 in the headquarters of Museu Agbar de les Aigües (Water Museum), the students presented their work with posters and presentations in front of the jury. The awarded projects by the jury in the 8th Crystallization at School contest are:

The award ceremony counted on the participation of M. Teresa Calvet, lecturer at the Faculty of Earth Sciences of the UB; Ester López, head of the Educational Activities in Museu Agbar de les Aigües (Water Museum); Heura Guspí, lecturer at INS Front Marítim, and some students from Institut El Cairat dʼEsparreguera.
