The new edition of the Emprèn!UB awards took place on Tuesday, October 29 at the headquarters of StartUB!Lab. This was the occasion to present this new space, which will be the incubator and accelerator of entrepreneurship projects by UB students. The awards were given in a ceremony presided by Rector Joan Elias during which, apart from showing the winners of Emprèn!UB, the attendants were told about the opportunities StartUB!Lab offers to the students of the University of Barcelona.

StartUB!Lab results from the will to promote entrepreneurship among the university community through the promotion of the links with the entrepreneurship ecosystem, promoting synergies and the exchange between different projects as well as to give visibility to entrepreneur projects carried out within the frame of StartUB!.

StartUB!Lab, located in Dolors Aleu building, covers more than 400 square meters and is designed so that 80 people can work there -distributed in entrepreneur teams. The space is designed so that entrepreneur teams can use it for one year, a period that can be extended to two years.

New study room

Also, in the same Dolors Aleu building, on November 4, a new study room only for UB students and people living in the Aleu residence, will be inaugurated. The new study room offers 195 reading spots with power connection.

Emprèn!UB Awards

The winner of Emprèn!UB awards was CoLabSTOCK, a website app for laboratory digitalization. It aims for the laboratories to have a digital record of their material so they can optimize resources through the use of databases and a collaboration network among the laboratories of a same institution. It has received a KUKI award, an intelligent biofilter to improve the quality of air and aesthetics of interior spaces using plants and technology. It also received a mention for Portajeringas Cintora, which enables providing health professionals with medication so they can give it to patients without having it in their hands.

Other participants in the ceremony were the president of the Board of Trustees of the UB, Joan Corominas, and the director of StartUB!, Claudio Cruz. The director of the startup Meter at Enpact, Jan Lachenmayer, gave the conference “How to become an international entrepreneur”.

StartUB! and the Board of Trustees organize the Emprèn!UB Awards 2019, which aim at promoting innovation and supporting entrepreneur ideas. This year, 57 projects were submitted and 10 were selected to opt for one of these three categories: first prize (3,000 euros), second prize (1,000 euros) and honorary mention. These amounts have to be destined to costs regarding the development of the business project.
