“Indisciplines” is aimed at researchers and creators who wish to reflect on creative ways of making, understanding, and hybridize artistic research processes in different areas, beyond traditional paradigms. This is why the conference is named after indiscipline, regarded as a tool to provoke which refers to research and the ability of arts to generate thoughts.

Among the speakers are distinguished figures such as the researcher and artist Mika Elo (University of the Arts of Helsinki), and the performer and artist Alexandra Murray-Leslie (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), co-founder of the electropop band Chicks on Speed. Together with the other speeches, there will be more than twenty-five research projects -some with a performance or exhibition image- with the participation of researchers from seven different countries.

Program

On Thursday, 28th of November, at 4 p.m., the Aula Magna of the Historical Building of the UB, will hold the opening session. It will be carried out by Mika Elo, distinguished expert on artistic research, who will give the conference “Ecologies of Artistic Research Practice”, in which he will treat some aspects from Research Pavilion #3 —his most recent project- presented in the last Venice Biennale.

Academic sessions will continue on the 28th and 29th of November in the Aula Magna and the Paranimph of the Historical Building of the UB, and will take place at the ESMUC Aula Orquestra on the 30th of November. The UB will be represented by the lecturers Antonio Gonzalo, Diego Marchante and Martí Ruiz, from the Department of Visual Arts and Design, and Bibiana Crespo, Joan Miquel Porquer, Eulàlia Grau and José Antonio Asensio, from the Department of Arts and Conservation and Restoration of the UB.

This session, under the title “PASSADES”, includes music performances, exhibitions, and workshops, so as to broaden the current view of artistic research in Catalonia. As part of this activity, the UB lecturer Pilar Rosado will present the exhibition”Mnemòsyne 2.0: Cartografies computacionals de la memòria visual”. This will not be the only exhibition by the UB to be seen at ESMUC. The lecturer Martí Ruiz, from the Laboratory of Sound Art of the UB, will present an exhibition of Baschet sound sculptures. Both exhibitions will be available on the 29th and 30th of November.

The conference “Indisciplines” ends on the 30th of November at 12.30 noon, in ESMUC, with the performance by Alexandra Murray-Leslie, titled “Gesamtkunstwerk: Thinking Through Making and Performing (computer enhanced footwear prototypes)”.
