The University of Barcelona took part in the 20th Rectorsʼ Meeting of Tordesillas Group, a network gathering 56 universities from Spain, Portugal and Brazil. The meeting took place in Niterói (Brazil), on November 24 and 26, at the Fluminense Federal University, under the title “The university and global development”. Participants debated on topics such as women and development agents as well as knowledge production, education and culture as tools for the social development and challenges regarding university sustainability.

The University of Barcelona took part in the 20th Rectorsʼ Meeting of Tordesillas Group, a network gathering 56 universities from Spain, Portugal and Brazil. The meeting took place in Niterói (Brazil), on November 24 and 26, at the Fluminense Federal University, under the title “The university and global development”. Participants debated on topics such as women and development agents as well as knowledge production, education and culture as tools for the social development and challenges regarding university sustainability.

Tordesillas Group tries to make interrelations between the universities in Spain, Portugal and Brazil, regarding the academic cooperation, research and doctoral studies. This network has created the Doctoral Schools, which set PhD student exchanges, co-tutoring and joint training. At the moment, there are doctoral schools for Physics, Public Health, Languages, Culture and Society, and Nursing. The University of Barcelona wants to take part in these schools through its Doctoral School (EDUB). Xavier Roigé, vice-rector for Doctoral Studies and Research Promotion, took part in the Tordesillas Group meeting representing the UB.

During this meeting, the agreement between Tordesillas Group and Carolina Foundation was renewed. Both entities co-fund research fellowships for university lecturers who belong to universities members of the Tordesillas Group.
