Current societies are facing deep changes with clear consequences for the future that can only be treated with a holistic approach including humanities, science and technology. On Tuesday, December 10, the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNi) presented the 7th Higher Education in the World Report (HEIW7) in CaixaForum Barcelona. This report, which counts on the support from La Caixa, conducts a diagnostic and analysis on the current state of humanities and offers proposals to expand our horizons towards an integral approach of knowledge. With 130 international experts contributing to it, the aim of this document is to provide synergies between science, technology and humanities to the academic community, politicians and all those who work in the field of higher education. Last, it wants to offer proposals for the future of the field of humanities and multidisciplinary work from the several branches of knowledge.

The opening was chaired by Joan Elias, president of ACUP and GUNi and rector of the UB; Àngel Font, corporate director of Research and Strategy in La Caixa, and Francesc Pedró, director of IESALC-UNESCO. Rob Riemen, writer and founder of Institute Nexus, reflected on the nature of humanity in his conference “How to humanize humans in an inhuman age?”. Then, Josep M Vilalta, director of GUNi and executive secretary of ACUP, presented the HEIW7 report. The editing team of the report has offered the debate session “De la reflexió a lʼacció”, in which the public could participate actively. The activity was closed by Francesc Xavier Grau, secretary of Universities and Research of the Catalan Government; José Manuel Pingarrón, secretary-general for Universities at the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, and Alfonso González Bondia, director-general of European and Mediterranean Affairs at the Catalan Government.
