The team of Hamlein Laie International School (Montgat) won, February 6, the fourth edition of the League of Debate for Secondary Schools of the UB, organized as part of the competition by the Vives Network. The team was formed by the students Alexandra Teixidó, Blanca Jiménez, Elizaveta Korchevaya, Jordi Freixa and Marc Herrera, with Ferran Puig as the tutor, who won Institut Ernest Lluch (Barcelona) in the finals. The champions will represent the UB in the 6th League of Debate for Secondary Schools of Vives Network, to be held from April 3 to 5 in Abat Oliba CEU University.

The League of Debate for Secondary Schools is a playful and training competition so that secondary school students learn how to speak in public, to work in teams and to defend a topic for and against, using Catalan as vernacular language. Students have to be registered in one of the universities of the Vives Network, and competed against other registered participants who are registered in the same university. In the UB, the activity was organized by the Student Support Services (SAE), with the support of the Vice-Rectorʼs Office for Students and Language Policy, and the Debating Association of the University (ADUB).

This fourth edition of the League at the UB has beaten records regarding participation. A total of twenty-four education centers have registered and have debated on the topic “Are country frontiers necessary?” for two days.
