On February 18, the Historical Building held the session "The University of Barcelona and its sustainable development goals (SDG): building the UB 2030 Agenda". With this initiative, the University wanted to give visibility to the activities that are carried out at the UB -related to the SDGs, as well as to create future approaches, identify resources and needs and establish alliances with other involved actors. The meeting was a success since it involved a hundred people from the UB community -students, PDI and PAS members- in the participative process.

The rector, Joan Elias, opened the session, putting emphasis on the committment of the University regarding the SDG. Then, the vice-rector for Equal Opportunities and Social Action, Maite Vilalta, presented the project of the UB to contribute to the sustainable development. The speaking turns were closed by Jorge Solana, advisor of the High Commissioner for the fullfilment of the SDG in Spain, who talked about the role of the universities regarding the SDG. During the second part of the session, participants were divided into three working groups -one on teaching and learning, another on research and innovation, and another on social committment-, where they presented their approaches on what to do as a University to fullfil the SDGs. The session was closed with the presentation of the conclusions of each group.

With this session, the University steps forward to give visibility to the actions that are carried out and developed at the UB in order to fullfil the SGDs. Over the next phases, this knowledge will allow developing a strategic plan to promote the contribution of the University of Barcelona on the fullfilment of the 2030 Agenda, and to continue with the monitoring and assessment of this contribution.
