The University of Barcelona held, on September 26 and 27, the 7th meeting of RESCUE project partners (Refugees Education Support in MENA countries), which gathered a delegation of 21 presidents, vice-presidents, vice-rectors, deans and other members of universities from Jordan, Lebanon and Kurdistan.

During this meeting, university representatives could share and assess the activities carried out during the three years of this European project on international cooperation, which from 2016 to 2019 has aimed to improve the access of refugees to universities in the MENA area (Middle East and Northern Africa). One example is the promotion of creation and management of support offices in the original place for refugee students (R-SOS units), in the university centers in Zarqa, Al-Zaytoonah and Yarmouk (Jordan), the Lebanese University and USEK (Lebanon), and University of Duhok and the Technical University of Duhok (Iraq).

RESCUE is funded by the program Erasmus+ for capacity building in higher education, and is coordinated by the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), in which the UB takes part. Also, it is one of the European projects on the refugee crisis in which the UB takes part within the frame of its Support program for refugees and people from conflict areas, managed by Solidaritat UB Foundation. The coordinator of the program, Cati Jerez, together with the assistant director of the Institute for Professional Development (IDP) - ICE, Carme Panchón, took part in this 7th meeting of RESCUE partners representing the UB.
