The Water Research Institute of the UB (IdRA) received a visit from the delegation of the China Department of Water Conservation and Comprehensive Utilization of Water Resources, built by members of the government and representatives of research institutions and companies from China. The visit, which took place in October, was held as part of the visit of representatives of China in Europe to assess solutions on the situation in China regarding water treatment.

The Chinese delegation was led by Niu Bo, Deputy Director General of the Department of Resource Conservation and Environmental Protection of the National Development and Reform Commission of the Peopleʼs Republic of China. The meeting at the UB was presided over by Albert Cirera, vice-rector for Entrepreneurship, Transfer and Innovation of the UB, and Mercè Segarra, vice-dean for Research and Transfer at the Faculty of Chemistry, and driven by José Francisco García, director of the Water Research Institute (IdRA). Regarding IdRA, the following members participated in the meeting: Carme Sans (Advanced Oxidation Processes Engineering - EPOA), Sina Gholami (Industrial Split Processes - PSI), Àlex Tarancón (Quality in Determination and Evaluation of Priority Pollutants - QÜESTRAM), Sara Herrero (MAIMA - Stable Isotopes, Mineralogy and Geochemistry), Josep M. Carmona (Economic and Environmental Geology and Hydrology). On behalf of the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, Lurdes Jordi, head of Innovation and Knowledge Transfer, attended the meeting.

China has an important deficit on water resources, especially in some western regions with dry areas. Some solutions in desalination technology are being studied to cover the population. Researchers from IdRA could explain their expert experience to solve issues related to water treatment and the control of the quality of treated water.

The closing part of the meeting included the presentation of two unpublished books and the book Navigatio vitae, by Domènec Corbella Llobet, emeritus professor of the Faculty of Fine Arts and IdRA researcher, who made exhibitions on his works in China and has a research bond with this Asian country.
