On Sunday, September 13, at 11 a.m., in the Catalan Book Week, the second edition of the Joan Lluís Vives Prize to university editions and publications will be presented. 150 anys de taules periòdiques a la Universitat de Barcelona, by Santiago Álvarez and Claudi Mans, has received the award to the top edition, and Teatre complet I (1865-1873), by Rossend Arús i Arderiu —with study and edition by Magí Sunyer, and coedited by Publications of the Rovira Virgili University and Editions and Publications of the University of Barcelona—, has received the award to the top co-edition.

As part of the activities to be carried out during this Week, on Sunday, September 13, at 2 p.m., the presentation of the book Per què som creatius?, by Enric Bufill, will take place, with the participation of the author and David Bueno, director of the Catàlisi collection. This volume of the collection explores, from different scientific disciplines, how creativity distinguishes and determines the human species.

Apart from the mentioned books, Editions and Publications of the UB will offer other novelties in its stand (number 39-40): Els clàssics en la literatura infantil i juvenil,by Jordi Malé and Josep Murgades, which goes over the presence of Latin and Greek classics in Catalan tales, the magazine Cavall Fort and works for young readers published before and after the Civil War; Teatre popular, by Rossend Arús i Arderiu, gathers three representative pieces of this authorʼs play production, known in his times and a pillar for the Catalan freemasonry; and Històries dʼinfants de Barcelona, by Salvatore Marino, Caterina Pibernat and Teresa Vinyoles, which gathers ten real stories of abandoned children in Hospital de la Santa Creu in the 15th century, in an edition aimed at young audiences.

Also, there will be the number 2 of the magazine on contemporary culture Compàs dʼamalgama, directed by Teresa-M. Sala and Francesco Ardolino, with articles that are dedicated, among other topics, to biographical literature, migration, the philosopher Jeanne Hersch and the city of Tokyo, with a monographic dossier dedicated to “Lʼombra”.

38th Catalan Book Week

The Catalan Book Week is one of the most important cultural events in the country. Apart from gathering the largest offer of books in Catalan, it favours direct contact between booksellers, editors and readers, who can find novelties and collections from each label. It offers a wide range of activities (presentations, readings, literary tours, storytelling…) for children and adults, who also contribute to promote reading in Catalan.

This is the first time the University Vives Network, which gathers 22 universities from Catalan-speaking areas, has its own stand in the Catalan Book Week, aiming to give visibility to the task carried out by university academic publishing houses regarding knowledge transfer and the quality of their publications.
