Researcher Héctor Gil-Marín, member of the Institute of Cosmos Sciences of the University of Barcelona (ICCUB), received the Young Researcher in Theoretical Physics Prize, a category in the Physics Awards of the Spanish Royal Society of Physics - BBVA Foundation 2020.

The jury qualified Marín as “one of the most brilliant researchers of his generation in the field of cosmology” and highlighted “his outstanding contributions to the analysis and interpretation of galaxy mapping”, which allowed advancing in our understanding of the accelerated Universe.

Héctor Gil-Marín is a researcher at ICCUB and holds a postdoctoral grant Junior Leader ʻLa Caixaʼ. He has worked on the map analysis in the international collaboration Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS) and the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS), programs in Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and which gather measurements for millions of galaxies to make a three-dimensional map of the structure of the Universe. At the moment, he is taking part in the mapping project Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), to measure the effects of dark energy in the expansion of the Universe.
