The University of Barcelona improves positions in the international ranking Best Global Universities (BGU), where it holds the 90th position at a global scale, compared to last yearʼs 98th position. The UB is listed in the 30th position among European universities and is the first one in Spain.

The University of Barcelona improves positions in the international ranking Best Global Universities (BGU), where it holds the 90th position at a global scale, compared to last yearʼs 98th position. The UB is listed in the 30th position among European universities and is the first one in Spain.

 

It holds an outstanding position in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (5th position worldwide), Infectious Diseases (14), Neuroscience and Behaviour (34), Clinical Medicine (35), Pharmacology and Toxicology (37), Psychiatry and Psychology (38), Oncology (40), Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems (45) and Surgery (46), Molecular Biology and Genetics (58), Agricultural Sciences (59), Cell Biology (65), Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging (65), Environment and Ecology (68), Endocrinology and Metabolism (71), Space Science (77), Immunology (78), Public, Environmental and Occupational Health (79), and Plant and Animal Science (82).

North American institutions lead the new edition of the Best Global Universities, which is led by Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, University of California-Berkeley, and the University of Oxford. Regarding Spain, after the University of Barcelona follow the Autonomous University of Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra University, the Autonomous University of Madrid and the University of Valencia.

The ranking is based on a series of indicators on the international reputation in research, regional reputation, scientific publications, citations, conferences and international collaborations, among others.

First Spanish university to be in the NTU ranking

This October, the National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU) has been published as well. In this ranking, the UB is still the top Spanish university. The UB holds the 72nd position worldwide in this ranking. The University stands out in the fields of Medicine (43rd position worldwide), Pharmacology and Toxicology (35th), Immunology (36th) and Clinical Medicine (42nd).

The National Taiwan University Ranking, carried out by the National Taiwan University, aims to compare the scientific performance of universities at a global scale, and to do so it uses bibliometric data from academic publications.
