Ateneu UB resumes its activities
On November 23, in the sala de juntes (boardroom) of the Rectorʼs Office, the Board of Directors of Ateneu UB was formed. A joint reunion with the Management Committee was previously held, presided over by the rector, Joan Elias, and the vice-rector for Equal Opportunities and Social Action, Maite Vilalta. The rector thanked the task of the members of the Management Committee, and commented on the beginning, the training process, the actions carried out by Ateneu UB, and the projects that, due to the lived circumstances, have not been carried out until now. The Board of Directors is formed by its president, Joaquim Prats; the academic secretary, Mercè Costa, and the lecturers Josep Antoni Bombí, Montserrat Busquets, Ana M. Carmona, Enric Canela, Marc Mayer and Carme Triadó.

Ateneu UB is an institutional meeting place for all the retired teaching staff of the University of Barcelona. It aims to benefit from the experience and knowledge of these people to improve the relationship and collaborations between the teaching staff, students and society in general.
With this aim, Ateneu UB will launch, in January 2021, a series of initiatives to share more about its existence and activity. It will be presented to the Board of Trustees of the UB, the University of Experience and the Deanʼs Offices in the faculties, and will manage the creation of a membership card that can be compatible with the library services and the entrance to the new entity room, in the Historical Building.
Ateneu wants to promote the knowledge exchange among its members through the creation of groups of thought and debate, organization of conferences, debates of shared readings, workshops, seminars and symposiums, putting emphasis on great questions and inter and transdisciplinary approaches. Also, it wants to show a critical thought on the academic and scientific activity, while searching for an improvement and optimization of results in the University when it comes to organizational, teaching and research aspects, and reach recommendations and proposals on changes aimed at the responsible authorities.
Another aspect it intends to work on in particular is the fellowship between its members, through the organization of scientific, leisure, sports, artistic activities, cultural trips, volunteering, and others of a similar nature, as well as the relationship with other athenaeums or similar entities of other universities.
