Cometa Neowise, by Xavier Palau, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography courses, and Pescador galàctic, by Pablo Bou member of AdSS in the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, are the awarded works in the category of wildlife and zoology, respectively, in the fourteenth edition of the wildlife photography contest fotoNAT-UB.

 

This contest, well-known in the Animal Biodiversity Resource Center of the UB (CRBA), counts on the support from the Vice-rectorʼs Office of Research, the Vice-rectorʼs Office of Students and Language Policy and the Faculty of Biology of the UB.

Cometa Neowise, by Xavier Palau, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography courses, and Pescador galàctic, by Pablo Bou member of AdSS in the Bosch i Gimpera Foundation, are the awarded works in the category of wildlife and zoology, respectively, in the fourteenth edition of the wildlife photography contest fotoNAT-UB.

 

This contest, well-known in the Animal Biodiversity Resource Center of the UB (CRBA), counts on the support from the Vice-rectorʼs Office of Research, the Vice-rectorʼs Office of Students and Language Policy and the Faculty of Biology of the UB.

 

The award ceremony held online, took place on December 3, with the participation of the vice-rector for Teaching and member of the jury in fotoNAT-UB 2020, Gustavo Llorente, and the director of CRBA, Antoni Serra, member of the Department of Evolutionary Biology, Ecology and Environmental Sciences and the Biodiversity Research Institute (IRBio) of the UB.

 

In the category of wildlife, other awardees are: Jordi Cañizares, student of Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (second prize, Estampa hibernal); David Lecegui, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography courses (honorary mention, Nit clara); Antoni Torres, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography courses (honorary mention, Textures a la sorra); Hugo Moreno, student of Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Biology (honorary mention, Casa nostra), and Jan Bruno Lewenstein, student of Biology at the Faculty of Biology (honorary mention, Parc nacional o presó?).

 

In the category of zoology, the awardees were: Ramon Seminago, member of AdSS in the Genomic Unit of CCiTUB (second prize, Lliçons de vol); Óscar Fernández, student of the masterʼs degree in General Health Psychology (honorary mention, La lluita per la dominància); Lucía Jorge, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography (honorary mention, Compartim?); Gustavo Pazmiño, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography (honorary mention, Love is in the... water?), and Roger Joan de Marfà, former student of the CRBA wildlife photography (honorary mention, InHide).

 

The new edition of fotoNAT-UB had 100 participants, who submitted a total of 192 photographs (78 in the wildlife category and 114 in zoology). Like in previous editions, the prizes award the top photographs in the categories of zoology (animals) and wildlife (natural landscapes, slightly transformed landscapes, geology, wild fauna and flora, and relationship between humans and nature). This year, a total of 54 students, 6 UB Alumni members, 25 former students of CRBA courses, 8 members of AdSS and 7 members of TRS have taken part in the activity.

 

The awarded photographs and the finalists are published in the website of the center and will be exhibited in the head offices of CRBA in the Faculty of Biology on December 15.
