Today, Thursday, December 10, at 10 a.m., the deadline to vote in the elections to the Rectorʼs Office of the University of Barcelona opens. Voting is open until Friday, December 11, at 8 p.m. For the first time, the elections to the Rector's Office will be held by electronic voting, given the current health situation resulting from COVID-19. Today, Thursday, December 10, at 10 a.m., the deadline to vote in the elections to the Rectorʼs Office of the University of Barcelona opens. Voting is open until Friday, December 11, at 8 p.m. For the first time, the elections to the Rector's Office will be held by electronic voting, given the current health situation resulting from COVID-19. Voting can be done through any computer, tablet or mobile phone with Internet access

There are three candidates to hold the position of rector of the UB. These are Joan Guàrdia, professor of Behavioural Sciences Methodology, David Vallespín, professor of Procedural Law and Joan Elias, professor of Mathematics and current rector.

On Friday, December 11, at around 9 p.m., the results of the total count of votes and the turnout will be announced. This information can be followed live, from 9 p.m., at the UB website and through the UBtv portal.

If none of the candidates obtains an absolute majority, a second round will be held from Thursday, December 17 at 10 a.m. to Friday, December 18 at 8 p.m. This round is only valid for the two most voted candidates in the first round, and the one to obtain the simple majority of votes will be proclaimed rector.

More than 52,000 people are called to vote

This will be the fifth time, according to the current legislation, the university community elects the new rector through direct election and free and secret universal suffrage. A total of more than 52,000 people have the right to vote.

The vote is weighted by sectors of the university community, according to the percentages set in the UB Statute: doctoral permanent professors account for 51% of the total; the other teaching and research staff, 9%; undergraduate, masterʼs and doctoral students, 30%, and administration and services staff, 10%.
