Today, Thursday, December 17, at 10 a.m. the dateline to vote in the second round of the Rectorʼs Office election at the University of Barcelona opens. Voting can be done until Friday, December 18, at 8 p.m. Joan Guàrdia, with 49.65% of the weighted voting in the first round, and Joan Elias, with 32.56%, are the two candidates in this second round of the elections, which will be carried out through e-voting.

Today, Thursday, December 17, at 10 a.m. the dateline to vote in the second round of the Rectorʼs Office election at the University of Barcelona opens. Voting can be done until Friday, December 18, at 8 p.m. Joan Guàrdia, with 49.65% of the weighted voting in the first round, and Joan Elias, with 32.56%, are the two candidates in this second round of the elections, which will be carried out through e-voting.

Since none of the candidates got absolute majority of the weighted voting in the first round, the candidate with the majority of simple votes in the second round will be announced rector.On Friday, December 18, around 9 p.m., the results of the total count of the votes and turnout will be published. This information can be followed live, after 9 p.m. in the website of the UB and through the UBtv portal.

More than 54,000 people are called to vote

This will be the fifth time, according to the current legislation, the university community elects its rector through direct election and universal free and secret suffrage. A total of more than 54,000 people have the right to vote.

Voting is weighted by sectors of the university community, according to the stated percentages in the UB Statute: permanent doctoral teaching staff accounts for 51% of the total; the remaining teaching and research staff, 9%; students of bachelorʼs, masterʼs and doctoral degrees, 30% and administrative and services staff, 10%.
