During the pandemic, the research staff of the University of Barcelona has continued to create companies in which the UB takes part, based on technologies or knowledge carried out at the University. During this period, the creation of four new spin-offs has been promoted.

The first one was Mind & Identity, a company to commercialize the digital platform Explore Your Meanings, to work on psychological assessment, in order to know the perceptions of customers, patients and consumers.

Another one is Accure Therapeutics, which works on medicines candidates to treat central nervous system diseases. The firm results from the merge between Binoure and Iproteos, a spin-off by the UB and IRB Barcelona, created in 2011.

Another spin-off that was created during the pandemic is Gate2Brain, which results from the technology created by research staff of the UB, IRB Barcelona and the Research Institute Sant Joan de Déu. Its aim is to develop an innovative technology to increase the efficiency of drug treatments for brain diseases.

Last, Aigecko Tecnhologies, to be launched in early 2021, is based on artificial intelligence techniques, deep learning and the real-time analysis of computer vision.

Another relevant figure on the activity of the UB spin-offs is that during 2019, the University took part in a total of 17 companies of this kind, which employed 118 people. Companies in with the UB participates had a total turnover of 5.4 million euros in 2019, 1.86% more than in 2018, and obtained nearly three million euros in funding, both public and private.
