Today, the Catalan Association of Public Universities (ACUP) presented at the University of Barcelona, the report “Research and Innovation Indicators of Catalan Public Universities”, a summary of the activities carried out at the Catalan public universities between 2014 and 2018. The activity was broadcasted online.

The report shows the excellent level of university research in Catalonia in the European and global context, equal to distinguished countries in Europe, and despite the underfunding received for university research over the last years, which can endanger, as stated in previous reports, the current position.

Catalonia maintains a good position in Europe and in Spain, from the H2020 framework perspective and regarding the European Research Council calls. This is shown in data, which also show the important role of the Catalan public universities in the field of fundaraising, both national and international, which are a relevant actor and the guarantor of the good position of Catalonia in research and innovation (R&D).

This time, it has new data on the doctoral theses (international mentions and industrial doctorates), as well as parameters regarding the contribution of the private sector to the funding of research and additional indicators. Moreover, the monograph is dedicated to the professional development within the framework of the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) at different universities. In this sense, all Catalan universities have worked on multi-annual action plans to implement these strategies, and have obtained the recognition of the European Commission with the HR Excellence in Research quality label, which honors universities that create and promote work environments that stimulate research.
