The team of Institut Llavaneres (Sant Andreu de Llavaneres) won the fifth edition of the League of Debate for Secondary Schools of the UB, which took place from the 3rd to the 5th of February as part of the competition launched by the University Vives Network. The team was formed by the students Júlia Higueras, Berta López, Hugo del Río, Victor Alomà and Júlia Roca together with the captain Encarna Cañete as tutor, and beat the team from Institut Eugeni d’Ors (Vilafranca del Penedès) in the finals. The winners will now represent the UB in the 7th League of Debate for Secondary Schools of the Vives Network, which will take place from the 22nd to the 24th of April in the Rovira i Virgili University.

The League of Debate for Secondary Schools is a ludic and training competition so that students from fourth year in high school and upper secondary school learn to speak in public, work in teams and defend different positionings regarding a topic –both in favour and against- using Catalan as their lingua franca. Students had to register in one of the universities from the Vives Network and joined other participants from the same university. In the UB, the activity was organized by the Student Support Services (SAE), with the support of the Vice-rector’s Office for Students and Language Policy, and the UB Debate Association (ADUB).

This fifth edition of the League of Debate of the UB gathered a total of 118 students from twenty-four centers from the province of Barcelona, who debated on the topic "Does technology increase happiness?".
