Today, March 4, the StartUB! Sprint Awards to support entrepreneurship were awarded in an event presided by the rector, Joan Guàrdia. This year, the high level of the projects that were submitted in this call led to two first prizes, both accounting for 3,000 euros.

The awardees were Skinnova, which presents vegan candy made from fruit remains, and Ahumadete, which offers a vegan alternative to fish made from carrot and microalgae oil, among other ingredients. Skinnova intends to reuse subproducts that are generated in the food industry as ingredients to create organic and environmental-friendly food. The product presented by Ahumadete is a safe, healthy and sustainable food alternative which is rich in proteins and omega-3 fatty acids.

The second prize, accounting for 1,000 euros, was given to Alta Guardia, a company of security alarms that offers a payment system which depends on how long the service is used.

There were two accessits. One went to InSkin, a filtering and classifying service for cosmetic products and its components through a website. The other was given to NovoGel, an innovative technology of hydrogel injection created using glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1).

The president of the Board of Trustees of the UB, Joan Corominas; the vice-rector for Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Transfer, Mercè Segarra, and the director of StartUB!, Claudio Cruz, took part in the ceremony. The event, which was held virtually, included the inspiring talk “The path towards a sustainable future”, in a roundtable format.

The StartUB! Sprint Awards aim to promote innovation and support entrepreneurial ideas among the students of the University of Barcelona. These prizes aim to distinguish quality projects with a positive social impact. .
