Professor of Latin-American Literature Mercedes Serna, from the Faculty of Philology and Communication of the UB, received the National Grant for Translation in China, the most important grant for translation and interpretation given in this country. The objective of the grant is to translate, from Chinese to Spanish, the literary critic study Sihe Chenʼs Elements of Weltliterature in 20th Century Chinese Lliterature.

Professor of Latin-American Literature Mercedes Serna, from the Faculty of Philology and Communication of the UB, received the National Grant for Translation in China, the most important grant for translation and interpretation given in this country. The objective of the grant is to translate, from Chinese to Spanish, the literary critic study Sihe Chenʼs Elements of Weltliterature in 20th Century Chinese Lliterature.

Mercedes Serna got this project together with Gao Weiqian, lecturer of Spanish literature in Changsha University, who carried out her doctoral thesis in the Faculty of Philology and Communication under the supervision of Serna, together with Antoni C. Rovira, who studied in Rovira i Virgili University and is now a lecturer of Spanish at the Changsha University.

A grant to translate for the first time an essay by Sihe Chen into a western language

The aim of this grant is to translate Sihe Chenʼs essay Elements of Weltliterature in 20th Century Chinese Literature into Spanish. To date, this essay had not been translated into any western language. Sihe Chen, professor at Fudan University (Shangai), is a distinguished writer in China, and one of the most prestigious contemporary Chinese literary critics in this country.

The grant aims to promote cultural ties between the Chinese and Spanish researchers. The project has been awarded with the support of the publishing house of Fudan University. The book that results from the translation grant projects will be published in the editorial Peter Lang.
