A system for promoting the use of public transports among UB students won the first prize in Innovation Day (i-Day) at the University of Barcelona, which took place from April 24 to 30. Like its previous edition, this Innovation Day has been carried out virtually using a platform based on an online escape room designed by the StartUB! Program.

The awarded Project, presented by Marc Amorós, Maria Pociello, Pau Escofet and Marta Amorós, responded the challenge of building a more sustainable urban mobility. The awarded proposal, named “Moving”, consists on a credit and points reward system for those UB students who use public transport.

The second prize was given to the challenge presented by the company Estrella Damm. It was given to the project Damm x Beach: dispensers to exchange glass bottles for a customized glass or a beer. The project was presented by Paola Carreón and Barbara Wzietek.

The third award was given to an app aimed at neighbour communities in Barcelona, which would promote sustainable changes through rewards and contests. The project, presented by Alejandro Toscano Sánchez, Laura Coll Pons, Sara Arenas Escobar and Sabina Soler de Grandes, responds to the Innomads challenges, to make the Barcelona buildings more sustainable.

Unlike in previous calls, this Innovation Day did not take place within the framework of the annual call in Europe held by EIT Health, but within the ReInnova FBG-UB project. Given that the i-Days turned out postitive, the UB decided to hold this new call, apart from the annual EIT-Health, to provide students with more opportunities, while the themes have also been expanded to sustainability challenges apart from those in the fields of health. In about six months, the University of Barcelona will hold another edition of EIT Health Innovation Day, to be coordinated by the UB for the first time in Europe.
