The University of Barcelona is listed among the top five universities in Spain in the 23 studies analysed by the ranking “50 carreras”, from El Mundo newspaper, published on May 12. In seven of these degrees, the UB is listed as the top one in Spain. These data are an improvement regarding the last edition of the ranking, in which sixteen degrees of the UB were among the top five in Spain, and four of them held the top position.

The UB degrees that hold the first position are Fine Arts, Biology, Social Education, Nursing, Medicine, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Chemistry. The University of Barcelona holds the second place in Environmental Sciences, Pharmacy, History of Art and Mathematics; the third in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, Physics, History, Teacher in Early Childhood Education and Psychology, and the fifth in Food Science and Technology, Law, English Studies, Dentistry, Social Work and Chemical Engineering. A total of thirteen studies of the UB improve positions compared to the last edition, nine maintain their position and two lower the position. Only the Complutense University of Madrid, with 27 degrees among the top five, surpasses the UB.

Every year, El Mundo analyses the 50 degrees students demand the most and highlights the five top universities in Spain, both public and private ones, where people can course these studies. The results of the list are based on the obtained data from the universities (demand, available resources, syllabuses and reached output, apart from context data), teaching staff questionnaires and other objective indicators such as international rankings and reports by the National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation of Spain (ANECA). Each of these aspects accounts for, respectively, a 50%, 40% and 10% in the final result for each degree. The last edition of the ranking is from 2019, since last year it did not get published due to the pandemic situation.
