The UB is among the top universities worldwide in 35 out of the 54 scientific areas analysed by the Shanghai Rankingʼs Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2021. In eight of the analysed subjects, the UB is listed among the top 100 worldwide: Physics, Biological Sciences, Human Biology, Agricultural Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Public Healthcare, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The UB is among the top universities worldwide in 35 out of the 54 scientific areas analysed by the Shanghai Rankingʼs Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2021. In eight of the analysed subjects, the UB is listed among the top 100 worldwide: Physics, Biological Sciences, Human Biology, Agricultural Sciences, Clinical Medicine, Public Healthcare, Nursing, Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

 

The UB holds an outstanding position in Clinical Medicine, the 45th position worldwide. In Agricultural Sciences and Public Healthcare, it is listed within the top 75 world centres, and in Physics and Nursing, among the top 100. It has also improved positions in Atmospheric Sciences and Political Sciences.

According to the results of the new ranking, the UB is the leading university in Spain in thirteen disciplines. Specifically, it is the leading one in Human Biology, Clinical Medicine, Nursing, Medical Technology and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It shares leadership with other Spanish institutions in Earth Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Agricultural Sciences, Law, Education, Psychology and Public Administration.

Globally, the universities from the United States are those with higher positions (30 out of 54 disciplines), followed by universities from China (13). Regarding the top listed centres, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) are those with more disciplines in the top position: 15 and 6, respectively.

The Shanghai Rankingʼs Global Ranking of Academic Subjects lists the universities in 54 disciplines, grouped in five areas: Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences

The ranking indicators are the number of journal publications, the number of publications in top journals, the impact of citations, the percentage of publications with international co-authorship and the international academic awards given to the TRS.
