The University of Barcelona is organizing, on July 21, a reflection session on teaching titled “Higher education in the current world. Re-think teaching from todayʼs outlook”. This session, which can be followed telematically on UBtv with previous registration, will feature several experts on education from different entities and academics from different disciplines, and in general, those members of the university community who want to participate through open-debate sessions. This session starts a process that will develop over the course of the next academic year in order to agree on a new teaching model for the UB.

The role of the teaching staffʼs training, new trends in higher education and the social responsibility of university studies are some of the topics to be treated during the day, in online sessions. Among the speakers are Rafael Porlán, coordinator of the Program on Teaching Training for the Active Teaching Staff at the University of Seville; Maria Rosa Buxarrais, director of the Institute of Professional Development (IDP-ICE) of the UB; Eduard Vallory, president of CATESCO, UNESCO centre in Catalonia, and member of the advisory council of the European university alliance EUTOPIA; the emeritus lecturer of the Faculty of Physics of the UB Javier Tejada, and Daniel Innenarity, professor of Political Philosophy at the University of the Basque Country.

The aim of this meeting is for expert and plural voices to share some of the fundamental elements to re-model the teaching model of the UB. The University of Barcelona, while not renouncing to the eminently face-to-face nature of teaching, starts a process of reflection to add the learnt lessons during the pandemic months and to adapt teaching to the new emerging needs and tools.
