Jaël Bestué Ferrera (Barcelona, 2000), 20-year-old athlete of Annabonese ancestry, will compete in the womenʼs 200-metre dash, on August 2. She is one of the great promises in the Spanish athletics. Expert on sprint tests, she has several records and top marks in Spain in the u-18 and u-20 categories. When she was sixteen, she already got her first medal, and she did so in an international competition: she won the silver medal in the 200-meter dash in the World U-18 Athletics Championship in 2017. One year later, in 2018, when she was seventeen, she received the first national medals in absolute category in the 200 meters. That year, she became the indoor and outdoor runner-up in Spain. In 2019, she got two more medals: she was proclaimed champion of Spain in the 60 meters (indoor) and got the bronze medal in the 100 meters (outdoor) in the U-20 European Athletics Championship.

Those Good results together with the ones she received over the last months, in which she got the absolute national runner-up position and her top mark in the 200 meters (23 seconds and 23 hundredths), took her to the Olympics. Bestué Ferrera lands in Tokyo feeling good, after her silver medal with the Spanish national team in the 4x100 relay in the U-23 European Championship, held this July.

The UB promotes top-level sports

Jaël Bestué Ferrera is part of the program for top-level sportspeople of the University of Barcelona, Tutoresport_UB, which is offered by the UB Sports Service, to respond to the needs of a collective that finds it hard to combine studies with the demanding calendar of training and official championships.

The program offers academic support to top-level sportspeople by allocating them a tutor that will guide the student athlete when enrolling and choosing the itinerary, apart from acting as interlocutor between the student and the lecturers in order to ease the reconciliation of the academic and sports activities, among other actions.

The main goal of the program is to facilitate the path of any UB student who wants to get academic training and at the same time wants to compete in the highest category of his or her sports discipline.
