Tribute to the expert on Catalan medieval literatura, Lola Badia

During the event, which will be led by Joan Santanach, lecturer at the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics, the two volumes of the recently published tribute book will be presented: “Qui fruit ne sap collir”. Homenatge a Lola Badia, curated by Anna Alberni, Lluís Cifuentes, Joan Santanach and Albert Soler, and it will end with a conference by Lola Badia, titled “«El que he après dels dos volums de Qui fruit ne sap collir ".

Lola Badia (Barcelona, 1951), who is retiring this year -although she will continue as an emeritus professor-, has been a professor of Catalan Literature at the University of Barcelona since 1987. Her career as a teacher and researcher has opened many lines of research and has created an important school of literary studies, while establishing long relationships with international scholars.

Her research has focused, preferably, on the lyric and narrative of troubadour tradition, the literary culture of Catalan writers of the 14th and 15th centuries, works by Ramon Llull and the scientific heritage in vulgar language. Founder of the Ramon Llull Documentation Center at the University of Barcelona and coordinator, with Albert Soler, of the Ramon Llull Database, she is the author, with Anthony Bonner, of Ramon Llull. Vida, pensament i obra literària (1988), with Joan Santanach and Albert Soler, of Ramon Llull as a Vernacular Writer. Communicating a new kind of knowledge (2016) and editor of Ramon Llullʼs de Començaments de medicina. Tractat dʼastronomia (2002), among many other titles. Together with other Lullists, she worked on the edition of the the opening and closing conferences of the Llull Year (2018, UB Editions and Publications and University of the Balearic Islands). Badia has also excelled in the critical edition of classics, especially Valencian, and in translations, with works such as Poesia catalana del s. XIV. Edició i estudi del Cançoneret de Ripoll (1983); the translation of the Dragmaticon philosophiae, by Guillem de Conches (1997), and the critical edition of Lo Somni, by Bernat Metge (1999), and Curial e Güelfa (2011). She is currently the coordinator of the Seminar on Literature and Culture of the Middle Ages and the Modern Age (SLIMM) and head of the consolidated research group on Medieval Catalan Literature and Culture. Numerary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Barcelona, ​​in 2000 the Catalan Government awarded her the Narcís Monturiol Medal for scientific merit.

Co-edited by UB Editions and Publications and Editorial Barcino, “Qui fruit ne sap collir”. Homenatge a Lola Badia brings together, in two extensive volumes, seventy articles written by disciples, colleagues and friends from around the world that recognize the mastery, enthusiasm and commitment of one of the key figures in studies of medieval Catalan literature of recent times. The book includes a miscellany of works that coincide with the research interests of the professor: medieval literatures and their classical background; medicine, alchemy, astrology and other manifestations of the science of the Middle Ages, and the figure of Ramon Llull.

This work is completed with a bibliographic collection, chronologically arranged, of the prolific activity of Lola Badia, summarized by Lluís Cifuentes and organized in two blocks. The first contains the works that are directly related to the research work and dissemination, including the websites and databases she has led. The second includes works aimed at a wider audience, such as collaborations with the written press, radio and television, among others. There is also a table, in which about two hundred people acknowledge the researcher, which closes the two volumes.
