After the events unfolding in the wake of the war conflict in Ukraine, Europe and its universities have expressed their unambiguous and clear positioning: their support for the country under invasion and for dialogue as the means for conflict resolution. They also defend their scrupulous respect for human rights.

Journalists, academics, representatives of the third sector and members of the Ukranian community of the UB will express this positioning in the event organized by the University of Barcelona to support the Ukranian people, which will take place on Thursday, March 10, at 4:00 p.m. in the Paranimph, in the Historical Building. The event will be live-streamed on UBtv.

The first roundtable, titled “The tale of peace”, with Manel Alías, journalist and TV3 correspondent in the conflict area, and Josep Baqués, lecturer at the Department of Political Science, Constitutional Law and Philosophy of Law and delegate of the UB at the Institute for Public Security of Catalonia. The table will be chaired by Agustí Alcoberro, vice-rector for Heritage and Cultural Activities.

The second roundtable is titled “Peace-building” and is built by the actors of the third sector Sonia Andolz, general director of the Security Administration of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Catalan Government Xavier López, director of the UB Solidarity Foundation. The table will be chaired by Ander Errasti, director of Coordination and Communication of the UB.

The roundtable “The resistance road to peace”, will feature the academics Aurèlia Mañé, tenured university lecturer of Economic History, Institutions, Politics and World Economy and assistant director of the Doctoral School, and Cèlia Cernadas, expert journalist on international affairs at Catalunya Ràdio. The table will be chaired by Ernest Abadal, vice-rector assigned to the rector and of Teaching and Research Staff.

The dialogues will close with a conversation between the representatives of the teaching and research staff and the Ukranian students at the University of Barcelona, chaired by Marta Ferrer, vice-rector for Students and Participation, and Montserrat Puig, vice-rector for Equal Opportunities and Gender.

The event will be closed by the rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia, reading the statement by the UB, titled "Universities, spaces for peace, democracy and human rights".
