The UB hosts a series of activities as part of the UNESCO World Higher Education Conference

From May 18 to 20, Barcelona will host the UNESCO World Higher Education Conference. This is the first time the conference will take place outside the UNESCO Paris headquarters, which makes it one of the most important events worldwide to take place in Barcelona in 2022.

 

Under the title “Reinventing Higher Education for a Sustainable Future”, the conference will debate on the challenge in higher education for the next decade and as part of the WHO 2030 Agenda. Among the participants will feature ministers, government officials of member states, diplomats, students, university managers, etc.

From May 18 to 20, Barcelona will host the UNESCO World Higher Education Conference. This is the first time the conference will take place outside the UNESCO Paris headquarters, which makes it one of the most important events worldwide to take place in Barcelona in 2022.

 

Under the title “Reinventing Higher Education for a Sustainable Future”, the conference will debate on the challenge in higher education for the next decade and as part of the WHO 2030 Agenda. Among the participants will feature ministers, government officials of member states, diplomats, students, university managers, etc.

Several meetings linked to the World Conference will take place during the week of the conference. The University of Barcelona will take part in it by hosting a series of activities related to the World Higher Education Week. The first of them will be the conference “Las universidades y el aprendizaje al largo de la vida”, organized by the Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Higher Education (SEPIE) of the UB, the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy and the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). It will take place on May 16, at 10:00 a.m. in the Aula Magna of the Historical Building (Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 585) and will include the attendance of the Minister for Universities, Joan Subirats; the State secretary for Employment and Social Economy, Joaquín Pérez; the president of CRUE-Universidades Españolas, Juan Romo; the head of the Unit of Higher Education Policies and Programmes of the European Commission, Vanessa Debiais-Sainton, and the rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia. This event will be streamed on UBtv.      

The session will debate on how the digitalization processes and technological changes have affected the universities and how these have adapted to contribute to the society of knowledge. 

On May 16 too, at 3:30 p.m., the Aula Magna of the UB will start the “Iberoamerican - European Union Meeting: a shared look at the futures of Higher Education”, to take place on May 16 and 17. This event will be streamed on UBtv. The meeting is organized by the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), the Ministry of Universities, the Ibero-American University Council (CUIB) and the University of Barcelona.  

The meeting, organized so that both continents share future perspectives in the field of higher education, will be opened by the minister for Universities, Joan Subirats, the Ibero-American general secretary, Andrés Allamand Zavala; the minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology in the Dominican Republic, Franklin García-Fermín; the president of CRUE-Universidades Españolas, Juan Romo, and the rector of the UB, Joan Guàrdia.  

At 6:15 p.m., the Ferran Soldevila gardens of the Historical Building of the UB will host a debate and cocktail reception on higher education and the SDGs as part of the OBREAL Global General Assembly.

Last, on May 18, the UB will hold the session “People-Centered Health Care, Public-Patient Involvement in Health Research, and Training Needs to make it Happen”, jointly organized by the UB, Hospital Clínic and ISGLOBAL.
