Economist Robin Broadway, one of the most relevant experts worldwide on fiscal federalism and optimal tax theory, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Barcelona on Thursday, June 6, in a ceremony in the Paranimph at 12:00 noon.

Economist Robin Broadway, one of the most relevant experts worldwide on fiscal federalism and optimal tax theory, will be awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Barcelona on Thursday, June 6, in a ceremony in the Paranimph at 12:00 noon.

 

Robin Broadway is a David Chadwick Smith Chair emeritus at Queenʼs University (Canada). He is a distinguished economist, expert on public finance, a discipline in which he is listed among the top 10% researchers worldwide according to the IDEAS ranking, which gathers several impact indicators. Broadwayʼs research is framed in fiscal federalism, optimal tax theory, cost-benefit analysis, the welfare state and the provision of global public goods.

He has been the president of the Canadian Economics Association and the International Institute of Public Finance, as well as editor of several academic journals, including the Journal of Public Economics, the reference academic journal in the field of public finance. In addition to his academic research, he has carried out advisory work for institutions such as the Economic Council of Canada, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Among his books are Public sector economics, Welfare economics, Canadian tax policy, Intergovernmental fiscal relations in Canada, Fiscal federalism: principles and practice of multiorder governance and From optimal tax theory to tax policy.
