Applications can be submitted from Monday 5 September for the Connecta UB grants programme, aimed at students with financial difficulties, to provide them with the temporary loan of a laptop computer or a basic Internet connection.

Connecta UB was launched in the 2019-2020 academic year as a result of the pandemic, aiming to provide all students with the necessary tools to follow the academic activities online. This year, in which face-to-face teaching has been restored, the programme is being maintained in order to mitigate the digital divide between students. The vice-rector for Students and Participation, Marta Ferrer, explains: "The pandemic situation highlighted the existence of a digital gap among students. Although it is true that now that face-to-face lessons have been restored, students have computers available in the UB faculties and libraries, but not everyone has a computer to work at home or to take to the university. We consider it essential to maintain the Connecta UB programme in order to guarantee equal opportunities for students with fewer resources, especially given the current economic situation”.

This new edition of Connecta UB once again receives the support of Telefónica, which continues to collaborate with this UB initiative. The programme is open to more collaborations through the UB Sponsors programme. The contributions it receives will make it possible to increase the number of computers and Internet connections available. In the 2019-2020 academic year, the first Connecta UB call for applications helped 331 students; in the 2020-2021 academic year, 228 students benefited from the programme, and in 2021-2022, 181 students benefited from the programme.

Students who are studying official bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree courses at a UB faculty or school are eligible for this grant. They must prove that they are in a situation of economic vulnerability and must have already applied for the general grant or the Equity grant. The aid categories are the same as in previous calls for applications: students can apply for the temporary loan of a laptop computer, access to a basic Internet connection, or both together.
