The sustainability report for the academic year 2020-2021 (Informe de sostenibilitat), prepared by the Office for Internal Control using the information given by most of the Universityʼs units and vice-rectorʼs offices, has now been published by Editions and Publications of the UB.

The report has been carried out following the full adaptation of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) consolidated set of standards to produce sustainability reports. This adaptation was carried out jointly by the social responsibility team of the University of Barcelona and the team from Pompeu Fabra University, in order to achieve more appropriate standards for analysing the impact of a public university (the original GRI standards are designed to be applied to any type of organization, but have a bias more focused on multinationals in the private sector). GRI standards are the most recognised in the preparation of responsibility reports and sustainability reports and, for this reason, the UB chose to use its standard proposal.

Apart from the provided information to comply the GRI standards adaptation, the UB contributions to the UN sustainable development goals (SDG) and the contributions made to the UB Agenda 2030, a document approved of by the Governing Council in June 2020, which specifies the goals marked by the University regarding the SDGs, have also been included. In this regard, the end of the document shows the respective indices detailing all the UB impacts in these two documents.

Regarding the sections of the document, approved of by the Sustainable Development Committee, it should be noted that it is structured into six big sections: one on the University of Barcelona and its governance, teaching and research, one on social commitment, one on environmental commitment, one on economy, and one on the content of the report with all the different indices.
