The UB holds the 86th position in the BGU ranking
The University of Barcelona holds the 86th position worldwide in the new edition of the Best Global Universities (BGU) ranking. The UB improves one position compared to the previous edition of the international ranking. It becomes the 27 top university in Europe, compared to last yearʼs position (28), and it is still the top Spanish leading university.

Regarding the knowledge areas, the UB holds an outstanding position in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (4th position worldwide) and it gets notable positions in Infectious Diseases (16th position), Psychiatry and Psychology (35), Surgery (35), Clinical Medicine (36), Oncology (37), Neuroscience and Behaviour (39), Space Science (54), Pharmacology and Toxicology (55), Immunology (58), Public, Environmental and Occupational Health (58), Cardiac and Cardiovascular Systems (60), Molecular Biology and Genetics (60), Cell Biology (69), Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Imaging (73), Endocrinology and Metabolism (75), Plant and Animal Sciences (77), Agricultural Sciences (82) and Environment and Ecology (100).
If we look at the different ranking indicators, the UB is especially outstanding in the research reputation in its region (Europe), where it gets the 19th position; the number of research articles listed in the 1% of the most cited articles (position 61); total citations (position 66); scientific publications (position 75) and the number of publications among the 10% of most cited publications (position 77).
North American institutions lead the new edition of the Best Global Universities, led by Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, the University of California-Berkeley and the University of Oxford. Regarding Spain, the University of Barcelona is followed by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (position 143), Pompeu Fabra University (196), the University of Valencia (212) and the Autonomous University of Madrid (231).
The ranking is based on a series of indicators on the international research reputation, the regional reputation, scientific publications, citations, conferences and international collaboration, among other aspects.
