The UB supports the homeless
For Christmas 2022, the University of Barcelona's Holiday Gift Basket, which every year appeals to the solidarity of the UB community supporting a social cause, will give the money raised to an initiative of Arrels Fundació: the Llatzeret project, which helps the homeless.
For Christmas 2022, the University of Barcelona's Holiday Gift Basket, which every year appeals to the solidarity of the UB community supporting a social cause, will give the money raised to an initiative of Arrels Fundació: the Llatzeret project, which helps the homeless.
This project includes the restoration of an existing building to provide five dwellings for people living on the streets. It also foresees a new low-demand service (Zero Floor), a place where homeless people can take shelter and rest temporarily, and thus avoid being exposed to the risk of sleeping outdoors.
This year's Basket will help Arrels to meet the costs of this reform and, thus, contribute to helping people who do not have a home to have a roof over their heads. By supporting this project, the institution wants to give visibility to the people who need it most and to the organisations that fight alongside them.
There are four baskets: the Galet basket, the Tió basket, the Neula basket and the Pessebre basket. All of them are filled with lots of prizes: an acorn-fed Iberian shoulder ham, tickets to cultural shows, lots of books, theatre and music tickets, renowned wines, wafers and nougat, among others. Until 15 December at 10 a.m., all members of the UB community can buy as many 2-euro tickets as they wish. The draw will take place on 15 December and the prizes will be awarded to the four winners on 19 December.
