Grup de Fisiologia Adaptativa: exercici i Hipòxia

General information

Recogised research group by the Generalitat de Catalunya

The main focus of our research group are the adaptive responses induced by the restrictions in the oxygen supply to the tissues. Among those, special attention is focused on the central and peripheral physiological adjustments against the intermittent exposure to hypobaric hypoxia. This type of hypoxia is a stimulus of interest in the physiology of exercise, for the aerobic performance improvement, and also as a triggering mechanisms of the response of acclimatization to high altitude. We have also studied other experimental models such as anemia, induced hypoxemia and hypothermia. The research lines of the group include: Acid-base and ionic balance during exercise and heat stress; blood rheology and impact on skeletal muscle microcirculation; capillarization, morphometry and metabolic characterization of muscle fibers; ventilatory exchange and its matching with peripheral flow of oxygen and oxidative stress during exercise, hypoxia and thermal stress.
