Joana VIDEIRA is a predoctoral investigator at ADHUC—Research Center for Theory, Gender, Sexuality. She graduated in literary studies and has a masters in literary theory and contemporary literature from the University of Barcelona. She researches the narrative construction of violence and suffering in the contemporary novel and its relation with the creation of new spaces for feminine agency. Her doctoral thesis, directed by Elena Losada, analyzes the narrative functions and mechanisms of violence and suffering in female characters in the novels of Marta Sanz and Sara Mesa. Further, and leaving especially the violences exercised by those characters, she investigates the possibility of action and critique that open the space for the literary representation of violence.
