The objective of the present book is to analyze how pregnancy and birth have suffered from a process of technification that has triggered social discomfort as the dehumanization of pregnant women, caused by the modernization of medical procedures, opposes to the necessity to resort to new technologies in order to ensure optimal healthcare. Thus, the text aims at opening a space for discussion about the affective role that medical professionals play as regards pregnant women and, at the same time, as regards the massive technification of birth. The contributors of the volume include, amongst others, Lydia Feito (Universidad Complutense de Madrid), Francesca M. Scott (Amsterdam University College), and the healthcare professionals Francesc Botet, Dolors Gómez Roig, and Noemí Obregón.
