The upcoming issue 17.1 of the journal Expressions Maghrébines will focus on the legacy and figure of Algerian author Tahar Djaout. This volume, coordinated by Corbyn Treacy and Megan MacDonald, is looking for contributions from different perspectives, disciplines and theoretical frameworks in order to analyse the influence of Djaout's work in the following generations of Algerian authors; the role of literary aesthetics in times of political conflict; the evolution of writers' political compromise since Djaout's death; the importance of the writer-journalist (Mustapha Benfodil, Adlène Meddi, Kamel Daoud, etc) in Algerian public life; the status of francophone intellectuals in Algeria since 1993; the reception of Djaout's work both during his lifetime and posthumously; the translation and circulation of Djaout's texts beyond Algeria and France; Djaout's literary canonisation; and the culture of elegies in Algeria. The deadline is June the 30th, 2017.
