Talk by Dr. Bence Neszmelyi: Prediction in Social Interactions

06/10/2025

🗓 October 20, 15:00 📍 Sala de Graus, University of Barcelona

The Brainlab – Cognitive Neuroscience Research Group of the Department of Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology is pleased to announce a talk by Dr. Bence Neszmelyi, who will join the group as a Beatriu de Pinós Postdoctoral Fellow starting in March 2026 for a three-year period.

In this talk, Dr. Neszmelyi will present a series of experiments—using both in-person and virtual interactions, and combining electrophysiological (ERP, EMG) and behavioral methods—that investigate how expectations shape the processing of social action outcomes and how these expectations guide action planning and error-related adjustments.

In addition to reviewing these completed studies, Dr. Neszmelyi will introduce his plans for extending this line of work. Specifically, he aims to apply novel approaches such as dynamic representational similarity analysis, which allow for the study of actions and stimuli as continuous, unfolding events rather than isolated static trials. This perspective promises to capture more naturalistic aspects of social prediction and provide deeper insights into the mechanisms that support coordination in complex, real-world interactions.

This event offers an excellent opportunity to learn more about current research on social prediction and the cognitive mechanisms that support effective cooperation.
