What kind of teacher is adequate to teach teachers on reflective practice? Guidelines for their training

Summary:

The Workshops will propose to reflect about attitudes, skills, knowledge and competences that the teacher needs to develop in order to teach other teachers on reflective practice. It is wanted to build up together a map of competences which the teacher of teachers needs to respond to the current demands and evaluate how it involves training teachers and teaching modalities planning within the Teacher Training Plans.

The workshop will be based on results and learning done during a research between 2005 and 2008 within the grants call to support the development of research and innovative projects in non-university educational matters (ARIE/2005) of the University Incentives Management and research Agency of Generalitat de Catalunya .

Workshop aims:

•  To identify education needs which are the result of reflective practice development.

•  To exchange different views of new teacher profiles which have been drawn up by the Department of Education (local government).

•  To relate education modalities with aims which are wanted to be reached.

•  To build and compare a teaching competencies map with new functions.

• To debate about the education involvements

Contents:

•  Professional development modalities.

•  Teaching of teachers.

•  Practical and reflective teacher.

•  Competences of teachers' teachers.

Methodology:

The workshop is based on the all assistants' participation in a way that experiences and beliefs will be brought together, beginning with a small group work, debates and shared synthesis.

Brief curriculum of the former:

  • M. Teresa Colén, doctor in Philosophy and Education Sciences. She is teacher at the Didactic and Educational Organization Department of University of Barcelona and coordinator of the Continuous Training for Teachers field of the well established Innovation and Research Group FODIP (Teaching Education and Pedagogical Innovation, http://www.ub.edu/fodip/ ).

    She has been head of the teaching of Childhood Teachers and Primary School section and later head of Innovation on Education section of ICE of Barcelona University until 2009. Coordinator of the symposium “Continuous Training for Teachers in Europe ” and executive director of the 1 st International Congress of “New Trends in Continuous Training for Teachers”, director of the postgraduate Continuous Training for Teachers Management.

  • Maria del Mar Prats is teacher and researcher at the Didactic and Educational Organization Department of University of Barcelona . She has the Bachelor Degree in Educational Psychology and is graduated in Childhood Education at University of Barcelona . She did the postgraduate course in University Teaching at Institute of Education Sciences of University of Barcelona and she is currently doing her PhD on “Education change: Policies and Practices” at Pedagogy Faculty of University of Barcelona where she also got the Advanced Studies Certificate.
Currently she works on different research projects: Educational Innovation, and University Teaching; which are run at the Didactic and Educational Organization Department of University of Barcelona, and is member of the research group “Teaching Education and Pedagogic Innovation” (FODIP) recognized by Generalitat de Catalunya . The research guidelines which she is working on are related to Teaching Education and Innovation and Continuous Training for Teachers.
