Nowadays, the development of basic biomedical research and the rapid translation of these advances to industry and the clinic is one of the main objectives of the European commission. In response to this challenge has emerged the new discipline of “Medical Systems” which aims to understand the complexity of gene-environment interactions-morbidities that result in specific and complex phenotype of each patient.

In Spain, Systems Medicine is a discipline still young compared with the rise of these disciplines at European level. In this context, the Spanish  Systems Medicine Excellence Network has the objective of powering Spanish science in the medicine field by enhancing cooperation and synergy in biomedical research and clinical field industry at national and international level.
