A team composed by UB students of Law participates in the final oral round of the international competition organised by the European Law Studentsʼ Association (ELSA), based on simulated moot court on World Trade Organization (WTO) law. UB students are qualified to participate in the final after beating the European round which took place in Warsaw in March.

The UB team beat other European universities, for instance Leiden University (Netherlands) and the University of Southern Denmark, which was placed third. The final round of the competition takes place in Geneva, at WTO headquarters, from 15 to 17 May 2014. The best 20 teams from all over the world are qualified to participate in the final. UB team is composed by students Claudia Castillo Comabella, Lluís Hernández Plana, Sandy Dahiana Medina Quintero and Valentin Weigel.

The participation in the competition requires an intensive previous training, English-written submissions for the complainant and respondent of a fictitious case written by a WTO professional, and the oral presentation of submissions both for the complainant and the respondent in front of a panel which consists of WTO and trade law experts. UB teamʼs trainers are Juan Pablo Caicedo and Andrei-Gavril Suse, who are now studying at UB the masterʼs in International Economic Law and Policy (IELPO), directed by Ramon Torrent. The team has also been advised by Professor Xavier Fernández Pons and supported by Altagracia Cuevas, coordinator of IELPO, and the previous edition participants Alexander Huitzi and Pablo Puchol. The participation in the competition is part of the teaching innovation actions developed by the Faculty of Law.
