On Tuesday 8 July, at 6 p.m., Barcelona Roca Gallery hosts the last lecture of the project La ciència de lʼaigua (The water science), of La UB Divulga, co-organised by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+I) of UB and Roca. Albert Casas, professor from the Department of Geochemistry, Petrology and Geological Prospecting at UB, gives the lecture "Lʼaigua que no veiem, però sí que usem" (Water we do not see, but we use).

Groundwater is the largest fresh water supply in our planet. It satisfies the needs of an increasing population which, as economic development and social welfare are increased, demands a larger supply of this resource. Groundwater exploration, control, modelling and management have evolved a lot in recent decades. This development enables to understand better aquifer systems, thus planning water exploitation in a correct way that guarantees its sustainability.

The session includes a water tasting conducted by Dr Josefina C. Tapias, lecturer at the Faculty of Pharmacy and coordinator of the UB master's degree in Water. Interdisciplinary Analysis and Sustainable Management. The main objective of the tasting is to prove if water is tasteless, colourless and odourless. In other words, if it is true that all water types are the same. Those present will taste different types of water and differences among them will be analysed considering the previous lecture. The influence that geology has on the water we drink will be also examined.

The main objective of the project is to make a transversal and multidisciplinary analysis of water. The series has included lectures given by experts from the University of Barcelona, workshops and guided tours.

Entrance is free but registration is required.
