The classification considers ten indicators: global research reputation, regional research reputation, publications, total citations, normalized citation impact, number and percentage of highly cited papers, international collaboration, number of PhDs awarded, and number of PhDs awarded per academic staff member.
Concerning subject, the University of Barcelona stands out in Neuroscience and Behaviour, where it ranks 58th worldwide; Plant and Animal Science, 60th; Chemistry, 55th, and Clinical Medicine, 49th. It occupies position 29 in Agricultural Sciences, position 67 in Biology and Biochemistry, position 57 in Environment and Ecology, position 70 in Immunology, position 91 in Microbiology, position 62 in Molecular Biology and Genetics, position 40 in Pharmacology and Toxicology, 43 in Psychiatry and Psychology, 70 in Social Sciences and Public Health, and 69 in Space Science.
