Mariano Marzo, professor in the Department of Stratigraphy, Paleontology and Marine Geosciences of the University of Barcelona (UB), was appointed honorary member of the Catalan Association of Economists for his professional career, his contributions to energy resources and geostrategy and his impact on the economy of the country and several companies. The ceremony in which Professor Marzo was appointed honorary member took place on 11 November within the Sopar Anual dels Economistes (annual gala dinner).

Mariano Marzo, professor in the Department of Stratigraphy, Paleontology and Marine Geosciences of the University of Barcelona (UB), was appointed honorary member of the Catalan Association of Economists for his professional career, his contributions to energy resources and geostrategy and his impact on the economy of the country and several companies. The ceremony in which Professor Marzo was appointed honorary member took place on 11 November within the Sopar Anual dels Economistes (annual gala dinner).

The Catalan Association of Economists gathers more than 8,000 members and 2,000 professional societies. It appoints honorary members to professionals who have contributed to foster economy-related fields of knowledge and the professional activities carried out by economists and have influenced economics and companies.

Mariano Marzo is professor of Stratigraphy. He teaches Petroleum Geology and Energy Resources at the Faculty of Geology of the UB. In 2014, he received the Award for the Best Science and Humanities Dissemination Activities conferred by the University of Barcelona. He has published more than 75 articles in scientific journals, edited and co-edited 15 volumes, and given more than one hundred speeches on conferences and congresses. He has been member of several editorial boards of prestigious international journals in the field of Geology. He is member of the Academy of the Sciences and Arts of Barcelona, the Advisory Council for the Sustainable Development of Catalonia (CADS) and the Board of Directors and the Academic Committee of the Spanish Energy Club. He has worked in Europe, the United States, the Middle East and North Africa.

Moreover, Mariano Marzo is member of several energy advisory councils in Spain and Catalonia, and in institutions such as the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain, the BP Chair on Energy and Sustainability of the Comillas Pontifical University, the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs, the European Institute of the Mediterranean and the Observatory of Foreign Policy of the Foundation Alternativas, among others.

Mariano Marzo participates in the colloquium “La nova geopolítica de lʼenergia”, included on the new edition of the lecture series PrimeraPlan@. The colloquium takes place on Tuesday 18 November at 9 p.m., in the hotel Rey Juan Carlos I. The activity is organised by the newspaper El Periódico de Catalunya and Banc Sabadell.
