The 17th Annual General Assembly of the European University Association (EUA) has elected Rolf Tarrach —rector of the University of Luxembourg and former dean of the Faculty of Physics of the University of Barcelona (UB)— president of the institution to serve from 2015 to 2019. EUA Assembly took place today, 16 April, at the University of Antwerp. The rector of the UB, Dídac Ramírez has participated in the meeting and highlighted Professor Tarrachʼs long career. Besides being the dean of the Faculty of Physics of the UB (1996-1998), Tarrach was vice-rector of the University during Josep M. Bricallʼs mandate (1990-1994).

Besides being the dean of the Faculty of Physics of the UB (1996-1998), Tarrach was vice-rector of the University during Josep M. Bricallʼs mandate (1990-1994).

Dr Rolf Tarrach was born in 1948 in Valencia. He studied Physics at the University of Valencia and obtained his PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Barcelona. He has published more than one hundred papers in theoretical high energy physics, quantum field theory, and quantum mechanics and has written two books on quantum information theory. He served as a postdoctoral researcher at CERN in Geneva, and he has made different research placements at prestigious research centres like the Center of Theoretical Physics in Marseille. Honoured with a degree honoris causa from the University of Saint Petersburg, Tarrach was vice-rector of the UB (1990-1994), dean of the Faculty of Physics of the UB (1996-1998), and president of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) (2000-2003). He has been the rector of the University of Luxembourg since 2005. He has received the Cañada Blanch prize, the Eduard Fontserè prize, the Narcís Monturiol prize, the Pi i Sunyer prize, and the Commendation and the Numbered Commendation of the Order of Isabel la Católica.
