La UB divulga organises the first UB Science Festival, an activity that opens the doors of the University of Barcelona and bring citizens closer to the research activity developed at the University in an amusing and innovative way. The festival takes place on Friday 22 May, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Different science dissemination activities —a gymkhana, workshops, practical demonstrations, games, etc.— emphasize the studies developed by researchers in every subject area. Most activities take place at the Historic Building, but other UB schools and centres also hosts some of them. All activities are described here (in Catalan).

The festival is organised by the Scientific Culture and Innovation Unit (UCC+i), supported by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology of the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Network of Cultural Scientific Units, with the collaboration of the Obra Social la Caixa.

The Historic Building hosts a gymkhana that will enable participants to enjoy a great number of workshops and practical demonstrations organised within the festival. The gymkhana is addressed to people 6 and older grouped into groups of three or five. Those groups composed by children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Two turns are offered: one in the morning from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and one in the afternoon from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is required to participate in any of the turns. If you are interested, please register yourself on this form.

Many practical demonstrations and workshops on different subject areas also happen at the Historic Building of the University. For instance, participants will enjoy a short trip to the nano world that will help them understand the meaning of working in the nanoscale. Moreover, participants will be showed how to use the app Riu.net, which enables to evaluate in an intuitive and simple way the ecological status of a river and to send data to the research group who created the app. In addition, participants will be able to attend a workshop on virtual reality in which a computer programme generates the same physical, psychological, emotional and behavioural reactions than the ones felt in real situations.

Other UB faculties and schools participate actively in the festival. For example, the Mundet Campus offers a workshop conducted by researchers at the Faculty of Psychology and two guided tours: one centred on fossils and rocks, and the other focused on historical memory.
