Today, the Historic Building of the University of Barcelona (UB) has hosted the closure of the 3rd Summer Language Study Stay in Barcelona. The event was attended by Dr Manel Viader, vice-rector for Teaching and Language Policy of the UB, and Josep-Anton Fernàndez, director of the Area for Language and Universities of the Ramon Llull Institute (IRL).

The initiative, co-organised by the IRB and the UB, by means of the Language Services, is targeted at students of Catalan from foreign universities and education institutions who want to improve their knowledge of Catalan language and culture. It combines courses in Catalan language and culture with a programme of leisure activities, language exchanges and conversation groups with UB students.

For two weeks, about thirty students of Catalan from fifteen countries have been able to improve and practice their communication skills in Catalan language and, at the same time, to know the city of Barcelona and enjoy some of the many activities that offer the city in the summer. Students have visited the Parliament of Catalonia and La Pedrera, been on a rehearsal of the Colla Castellera de Barcelona, and attended a workshop of Catalan cuisine at La Boqueria market, among many other activities.

The language study stay is part of the programme Catalan language and culture abroad of the Ramon Llull Institute, which also includes the 14th Catalan Language University Campus, a cooperative project organised together with the Government of Andorra. Participating students come from very different countries: Germany, Canada, Slovakia, Spain, United States, France, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Portugal, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Rumania, Russia, and Serbia.
