According to the latest edition of the ranking that the British magazine The Times Higher Education (THE) publishes every year, the University of Barcelona (UB) rises to position 174, and it is consequently included in the top 200 universities in the world. This is a significant improvement as in the previous edition the University ranked among positions 201 and 225. Its new position turns the University of Barcelona into the only Spanish higher education centre included in the top 200 universities in three of the most important international rankings: Academic Ranking of World Universities, QS World University Rankings and The Times Higher Education.

According to the latest edition of the ranking that the British magazine The Times Higher Education (THE) publishes every year, the University of Barcelona (UB) rises to position 174, and it is consequently included in the top 200 universities in the world. This is a significant improvement as in the previous edition the University ranked among positions 201 and 225. Its new position turns the University of Barcelona into the only Spanish higher education centre included in the top 200 universities in three of the most important international rankings: Academic Ranking of World Universities, QS World University Rankings and The Times Higher Education.

Another year, ranking results prove that Catalan universities are the best-ranked Spanish higher education centres. The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona ranks in 144th position and the Pompeu Fabra University is located at position 164. Other outstanding Spanish universities are the Autonomous University of Madrid and the University of Navarra (both included among positions 301 and 350).

The universities that lead the 2015-2016 edition are: the California Institute of Technology (United States), the University of Oxford (United Kingdom), Stanford University (United States), the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (United States).

This year, The Times Higher Education changed the methodology used to classify universities. The University of Barcelona obtained in the following results: teaching 38.5 % (28.4% on the previous edition), international outlook 49.2 % (47.8% in 2014), industry income 31.1% (31% in 2014), research 37.4 % (28.8% in 2014), and citations 78,9 % (79.7% in 2014).
